The joy of learning and creative engagement continues beyond the school day at the Lower School through meaningful and enjoyable afterschool programs. Girls make broader social interactions, explore new learning opportunities, express themselves and have fun in a variety of activities or clubs rooted in the mission, vision and warmth of the Lower School.

Fees and hours vary by program, and SPACE IS LIMITED.

Winter 2016-17 Woodlands Offerings


Basketball (3rd-5th grades):
Coached by parent volunteers, Richard Gottlieb and Dakshesh Kothari. 3rd grade: Instruction, practice & scrimmages; 4th & 5th grade: Instruction, practice, scrimmages & games, Thursdays, 3:30 - 4:45 pm. Cost: $50 (includes t-shirt).

BUILDER BEARS IS NOW FULL! Builder Bears (1st-3rd grades): Builder Bears Robotics Club offers girls the chance to explore robotics & programming using Lego WeDo kits. Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30 pm. Cost: $150 (includes supplies).

BUILDER BEARS FORM

Eco-Explorers (K-2nd grade): Irvine Nature Center’s Eco-Explorer Club offers an enriching opportunity for kids to be active outdoors, discover nature and continue learning long after the school bell rings. With daily activities such as live animal encounters, science experiments, nature crafts and exploring the outdoors, your students will engage all their senses and establish a valuable connection with the natural world. Mondays, 3:30-5:00 pm, Cost: $150.

ECO-EXPLORERS (K-2) FORM

Eco-Explorers (3-5th grades): Irvine Nature Center’s Eco-Explorer Club offers an enriching opportunity for kids to be active outdoors, discover nature and continue learning long after the school bell rings. With daily activities such as live animal encounters, science experiments, nature crafts and exploring the outdoors, your students will engage all their senses and establish a valuable connection with the natural world. Fridays, 3:30-5:00 pm, Cost: $170.

ECO -EXPLORERS (3-5TH) FORM

Grizzlies On The Go (2nd-5th grades): Led by Tracey Brocato, Lower School Science Teacher. Enjoy an hour of fun after school playing active games and exploring the GFS campus! We'll be exercising and "getting in shape" without even realizing it! Games like Capture the Flag, Kick the Can and SPUD, and hikes through the woods and fields looking for natural wonders! We will have access to indoors for inclement weather (too cold, rain or snow), but the goal will be fresh air! Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30 pm. Cost: $50.

GRIZZLIES ON THE GO FORM

Rockin' Robins (K-2nd grades): Ashleigh Cicconi, Music teacher for Pre & Lower Schools. The Rockin' Robins Music Club will provide additional music enrichment for students K through 2nd grades. As a member of this fun and interactive group, students will be exposed to new and challenging music experiences. They will be expected to expand their musical talents through participation in more advanced instrumental and vocal techniques, as well as share their enjoyment of music with fellow peers. Mondays, 3:30 - 4:30 pm. Cost: $30.

ROCKIN ROBINS FORM

CANCELED Silver Knights Chess Club: Led by an instructor from Silver Knights, a regional leader in youth chess instruction, teaches girls (K-5th) the basics of chess through lesson and play. Thursdays, 3:45 – 4:45 PM. Cost: $155.

SILVER KNIGHTS FORM

NOW FULL! Tiny Chefs (K-2nd grades): Tiny Chefs© share the joy of cooking with kids. In a safe and fun environment, children learn through cooking. They obtain basic education skills and culinary techniques while making and enjoying healthy and delicious foods. Your daughter will to follow directions and safety guidelines; identify, measure and combine ingredients; and work together on a team to accomplish goals. Thursdays, 3:30-4:30 pm. Cost: $225 (includes supplies).

TINY CHEFS FORM

Little Gourmets (3rd-5th grades): Little Gourmets, taught by a Tiny Chefs© instructor, share the joy of cooking with kids. In a safe and fun environment, children learn through cooking.
