Your WISE Experience at Johns Hopkins
The core of the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program is letting participants DO science and engineering... and do it at the place it's done best--Johns Hopkins University.
Johns Hopkins faculty members--many of them women--from the Whiting School of Engineering, the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, and the Bloomberg School of Public Health are available each semester to provide research opportunities for WISE students in their labs and in the field and to provide direct mentoring.
The Academic Program at Garrison Forest School
The science experience at Johns Hopkins is complemented by a rigorous course load at Garrison Forest. Juniors and seniors take their major core courses in addition to WISE. Coursework parallels the home high school core curriculum of non-GFS student WISE participants; in general, course content will allow a non-GFS student to move from Garrison Forest back to her home high school (if she is enrolled in WISE for the fall semester), or from her home high school to Garrison Forest (if she is enrolled in WISE for the spring semester) with minimal differences in material. The Dean of Special Programs and GFS faculty work with faculty at home high schools to achieve smooth course transitions.
