Fall Sports
Upper School: Monday, August 19 for Tennis, Cross Country, Field Hockey and Soccer.
Middle School: Organizational meeting on Friday, September 6; Practice on Monday, September 9 for Cross Country, Field Hockey and Soccer.
Winter Sports
Upper School: Tuesday, November 5 for Basketball, Indoor Soccer and Indoor Track. Monday, November 11 for Squash.
Middle School: Tuesday, November 12 for Basketball, Soccer and Squash.
Spring Sports
Upper School: Tuesday, February 18 for Lacrosse, Badminton, Softball and Golf.
Middle School: Tuesday, February 25 for Lacrosse and Softball; Thursday, March 3 for Tennis

How do I find out about cancellations, daily game, or practice schedules?

Call the GFS Athletic Hotline at (410) 559-3198 or log on to www.gfs.org/athletics and Choose "Team" on the Athletics Menu. There you may choose the individual team sites for the latest information.

Where do I find the physical/medical forms?

Download the forms from the Resources box in the right-hand column. You may also find them by going to http://www.gfs.org/parents/school-forms/index.aspx and choose your respective division. Both the "Physical Exam" form and "Consent to Treat" forms (pdf versions) are listed under "Health Forms" or "Athletics." Both forms must be completed and on file in order to participate in GFS Athletics.

Do I need a physical to play sports at GFS?

Every GFS athlete must have a completed, up-to-date physical examination form and emergency medical forms on file at GFS in order to participate in any tryouts, practices, or games.

What time are Middle School practices?

Fall/Spring sports:
Monday-Friday from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Winter sports:
Monday-Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

For all seasons:
Monday-Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Additional practices may be scheduled on the weekends or on school scheduled vacation days. Spring team teams may practice or have games over Spring Break.

Do I need to attend every practice/game?

Middle School Expectations:
Athletes are expected to be at all practices and team activities; however, a student may be excused from practice one day each week for religious class or for a previously scheduled lesson. This scheduled absence must be communicated to the coach at the start of the season.
Upper School Expectations:
Athletes are expected to be at all practices and team activities. Failure to do so will result in a reduction of playing time. If a player is not at practice the day before a game, they cannot start in the next game.

Where can I find directions to away games?

See the sidebar on this page or go to www.gfs/athletics, select "Teams" from the Athletics menu, select the appropriate team, and then select the opponent for whom you need directions.
You may also check the visiting team’s website for directions, as well as the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland website (www.iaamsports.com) for details.

Where does the bus depart for away games?

The bus will pick up all teams for away games behind the Searle Athletic Center across from the Paw Print turf field.

Where do I pick my daughter up from away games?

Athletes are permitted to ride home with their parents after away games with written consent that has been given to the coach. If the athlete rides the bus back to Garrison Forest, athletes may be picked up behind the Searle Athletic Center across from the Paw Print turf field.

What happens if my daughter is late to school? Can she play or practice?

A
If a student is late or absent from school, she may not participate or play in a game that day unless an acceptable parent or written doctor's excuse is submitted to the Athletic Director. In order to participate in a game or practice, a student must arrive and sign-in no later than 10:00 a.m. on the day of the practice/game.
