Baccalaureate remarks by Nick Burns, Upper School History Teacher

Nick Burns came to Garrison Forest in 1995. Before GFS, he taught at Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia and the Sanford School in Hockessin, Delaware. In addition to teaching history at GFS, Nick coached the Middle School Soccer and Lacrosse Teams and Upper School Varsity Basketball.

In 2011, Nick received Garrison's highest faculty honor, the Distinguished Teaching Award. Nick's goals are always that his "young scholars," as he calls them, understand themselves and their world more – that they think, write, and speak better, and believe more fully in themselves, when they leave his class.

Nick attended Denison University and obtained a degree in Political Science before continuing his education at Temple University where he earned an MA in American History.

He lives in Hampstead, Maryland, with his wife, Gabriela, and daughter Maria. His two favorite avocations are reading, especially history, and travel, particularly to Spain, where he and his wife have family.. See the list of award recipients here.

Congratulations to the Class of 2017! We will miss you at GFS.
