The Class of 2024 is headed to Middle School! The rising 6th Grade said farewell to Lower School at Lower School Closing Exercises on June 8. The students' families and friends gathered in Garland Theater on this beautiful June day to celebrate the girls becoming Middle Schoolers.
After singing the original song "Party in the New Sixth Grade" for which the girls created lyrics and a music video shown during the ceremony, Head of School Dr. Kim Roberts shared advice with the students on how to make the most of their Middle School years by trying new things, taking risks and spending time getting from behind their cell phone screens. The students followed with reflections from their Lower School years that spoke to GFS's Core Values. The experiences shared ranged from showing authenticity by making new friends, compassion in developing special bonds with teachers and even curiosity when kissing a fish!
Head of Lower School Gail Hutton shared some of her favorite 1st Grade sayings like "don't yuck someone else's yum", "no cutting in line" or "you won't get in trouble for telling the truth" to serve as simple reminders for the girls on being understanding, compassionate and honest as they navigate through Middle School and beyond. Read her remarks here. After receiving their certificates, the students and their families ended their special day with a reception in the Livingston Great Room.
Congratulations, Class of 2024 and welcome to Middle School!
