The Upper School Sculpture class, taught by Sarah Sachs, kicked off March in style with an incredible field trip on March 1st to the sculpture studio of Sebastian Martorana. In his downtown Baltimore studio, the class enjoyed a stone-carving demo and activity. They had the Golden Rule hammered home (quite literally; see the photo gallery) in a fun hand-lettering activity with a hammer and chisel. They also learned to gold leaf and carve a variety of different stones.
Thanks to Mr. Martorana for his generosity of time and talent. Check out his website.
Enjoy the photos by Ms. Sachs.
Earlier in the week, students started carving in alabaster in the GFS studios! Check out the video.
