For the 2011 Komen Race for the Cure, the Susan G. Komen Foundation is asking the nation "What is your reason for racing?" Team GFS wants to know, too!

Share your reason(s) for racing for the cure here and inspire others to race, walk or "sleep in" for a cure to breast cancer.

I am running for my friend Laura, whose spirit, courage, humor and kindness deserve so much more than the diagnosis she has been given. It's the least I can do for someone who has given her best to me.

Because of organizations like Susan G. Komen I am here today. Their message for early detection resulted in the discovery of cancer during a routine mammogram. Since my cancer was detected early, I had more choices and control over my treatment. I am racing to spread the word on early detection and increasingly more effective treatment of breast cancer.

I am racing to honor my father who has battled and has survived Cancer on & off for 20 years. He turned 81 years old a few days ago. Each day & year that passes I am convinced that an Angel has kept a watchful eye over him. I love you Dad.

I am racing because I watched my mother, my mother-in-law, and my best friend die of breast cancer. I want a cure before there is a chance of my daughter getting this disease.

I run in honor of Sandy, Robin, Lisa, Anita, Linda, Micheline, Nancy Bets, Lynn, Barbara, and Erin, and with the hope that our GFS students will have a future free of this disease.

We are racing in honor of those who have lost the fight and those who are still fighting! I am also racing with my 8 year daughter to show her the importance of community involvement and standing for a bigger cause!

I support Race for the Cure to show my appreciation for the people at Susan G. Komen, Hopewell Cancer Support and Johns Hopkins Hospital who helped my wife overcome the odds and survive breast cancer.

I am participating in Race for the Cure to support all those affected and touched by this illness. My father and several friends are breast cancer survivors.

I am racing in memory of my grandmother, Ruth Gray. Breast cancer took her away from us far too early. I pray that a cure is found soon and no other family has to lose a loved one!
