Garrison Forest School

Athletics Reopening Details

Garrison Forest Athletics has developed a comprehensive plan for each stage of learning we might find ourselves in for this academic year.  We are able to offer a broad range of athletic options for virtual and in-person instruction.  The goal is to effectively serve students who might be required to do virtual learning for various reasons, as well as the student who would benefit greatly from the social interactions within in-person instruction. Garrison’s athletic administration and coaches remain committed to the mental, social, and physical well-being of our student-athletes.

Spring 2021 Athletics Updates

Athletics After Spring Break
GFS will be requiring a negative PCR COVID test or proof of quarantine from all students, faculty and staff prior to the full LEVEL 3 in-person return to learning on Monday, March 29. Please find more details on our Return to Campus info page

The Spring Season at GFS
As the IAAM announced earlier this month, we will be moving forward with a competitive league schedule this spring. While we are still working out the details of our schedule, we are excited to provide opportunities for competitive play for our spring athletes.

We will continue following all health and safety guidelines that have previously been communicated, including the wearing of masks at all times, physical distancing on the sidelines, and a required pre-practice or pre-game health screening for every player.

Spectator Policies
The IAAM spectator policy has allowed each school to determine their own spectator policy; we will communicate other schools’ policies to you as we are able.

Outdoor sports: For games held at GFS for outdoor sports, each GFS player on the team will be allowed to have a maximum of two guests for each game. Guests will be asked to wear masks, physical distance from one another (family members may be near one another) and complete a COVID screening form prior to each game they are attending. Our ability to continue this policy will be based on how well our guests are adhering to the rules, including wearing masks so we thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Golf: Student athletes are expected to be socially distant at all times and wear marks. Spectator regulation and course rules will be dictated by the golf force facility. The coach will communicate course rules to athletes prior to play.

Indoor sports: For indoor sports, including riding and polo competitions, two guests per GFS athlete will be allowed, provided guests adhere to all restrictions named above as well as overall building capacity limits.

Badminton: Spectators should remain away from the courts and spread out along the track to spectate home badminton matches. Rules for away contests will be communicated from the coach prior to the match.

For games played at other schools, we will need to adhere to that school’s or venue’s policy around spectators.

Forms for Participation
All Spring athletes should have already submitted the two forms required for their participation in our Athletics program, the Pre-Participation COVID questionnaire and the GFS Acknowledgement for Athletics form

If your child has received a positive COVID test, they will need to have a medical clearance completed by their primary care physician, and you must submit this Medical Clearance Form prior to your child’s return to our Athletics program. Please review this important information regarding returning to athletics post-COVID for more information.

The School will provide transportation to off-campus practices and games. However, with parental permission, students may drive themselves and/or students may ride with another parent. Students must submit an athletics driving permission form. Forms should be turned into your Coach. (Click here to download form.) Please note that students who travel together on a bus or in the same car will automatically be considered close contacts in the event contact tracing is needed.

All policies are subject to change as we continue to adapt to the changing environment and monitor the situation.

Safety Precautions and Protocols

Requirements for Participation and Assumption of Risk

In order to participate in on-campus athletics, students and parents must do the following:

Continued participation in the program will be based on a student's and family's ability to adhere to the guidance and restrictions outlined here and in any follow-up communications from the school.

Assumption of risk: Our team has worked very hard to minimize the risk and follow all health guidelines to ensure a safe and fun experience while on campus; however, any in-person activities will bring a certain amount of risk. You and your child will be agreeing to accept that liability by participating in these programs.
