Alumnae Spotlight: Christine Knauss ‘09

In early November, Christine Knauss ’09, a University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science graduate student, came back to GFS to share her research with the 6th Grade. Christine, who is in the process of earning her Ph.D., works in the University’s Horn Point Laboratory examining how plastic pollution is affecting oysters in the Chesapeake Bay. Her research focuses on “microplastics,” small pieces of plastics that when ingested by organisms can be harmful to organisms and the food chain.
