The Maker (or Maker Space) movement began as an organic grass-roots community movement in 2005, with the first Faire opening in New York City. Today there are hundreds of Maker Faires in a given year, and schools and communities are building Maker spaces daily. Maker spaces are a growing global movement, as 21st century life is increasingly driven by individuals or small companies innovating, designing and producing.
As a hands-on learning environment centered on creation, experimentation, invention, tinkering, discovery and exploration, Garrison Forest’s Maker Space, the Creative Co-Op, teaches GFS students the agility and skills needed to thrive and excel in today’s environment. It’s also a next and hub focused on people, equality, creating and sharing ideas. Designed as a space for individuals, groups and classes to create something new or work on an existing project, the Creative Co-Op spaces across campus offer organized instructional programming from local experts as well as drop-in making and collaboration.
