Cleaning and Greening in Sandtown

Five GFS Upper School students assisted with a neighborhood clean-up in Sandtown on Saturday morning.  The girls worked hard alongside neighborhood residents and Hopkins students, and the team was able to do a lot of "cleaning and greening” in the 1300 blocks of Fulton and Laurens Streets.  The effort continues to build on the school’s connection with Sandtown, as this is the neighborhood where the faculty contributed to the completion of eight Habitat for Humanity homes.  Former GFS history teacher and master storyteller Butch Darrell organized the effort and provided the student volunteers with a valuable history lesson about Sandtown which made their work even more meaningful.
