On Wednesday, February 28, GFS marked the culmination of Black History Month with a performance in Garland Theater. Through music, dance, poetry and personal reflections, Upper School students celebrated the achievements and recognized the experiences and history of African Americans.
Hosted by Johnae '19 and Madison '19, the assembly featured performances by the Chamber Choir and the Upper School dance ensemble, Blue Allegro. Lauren '19 and Kenya '19 both shared reflections on their experiences and Middle School students joined the celebration by reciting Maya Angelou's poem, Still I Rise.
In the days leading up to the assembly, the students gave Black History Month presentations in the Lower and Middle School. On March 1, several GFS students joined Boys Latin for a Black History Month assembly where Kenya also shared her well-received reflections with the crowd.
Thank you and congratulations to all of the students and faculty involved in bringing an invaluable experience to the GFS community.
