Part-time Lower School Physical Education Teacher

Garrison Forest School has an opening for a Part-time, 40% FTE, Lower School Physical Education Teacher to begin in August 2019. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator who brings an energetic and contemporary approach to the teaching of physical education. The ideal candidate would be able to teach physical education for grades K-5.  Along with classroom teaching, a collaborative approach to planning and teaching is essential for team teaching at this level. A desire to contribute to the leadership and scholarship of young women are important qualities for this position, as well as an ability to build positive, constructive relationships with students. This position reports to the Head of the Lower School and meets with the Chair of the Physical Education Department.  Additional opportunities for coaching may be available.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Team teach three (3) Lower School Physical Education classes.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
  • Contribute to the life of the School by chaperoning one weekend activities per year for the Residential Life program.
  • Work alongside the Lower School Administrative team to build a meaningful learning experience for students
  • Create a secure and stimulating environment in which students grow in both autonomy and the ability to work and interact together.
  • Take responsibility for being a role model by maintaining an environment that fosters respect among students and colleagues
  • Possess strong communication skills, a patient and thorough understanding of adolescence and the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues.

Qualifications:    

  • B.S. degree or equivalent relevant to Lower School Physical Education – Master’s degree desirable.
  • Prior experience working in a school desirable.
