Upper School Students Visit National Museum of Women in the Arts

A group of Upper School students and GFS faculty member BJ McElderry visited the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. last weekend for a special exhibition. They viewed the exhibition of Hung Liu's recent works, noting the references to the Tang and Qing Dynasties as well as The Great Leap Forward, symbolism of Eastern philosophies and focus on Chinese women ranging from those with bound feet to the sisterhood of peasants. The students marveled at the rich printmaking processes and tapestry as aesthetic reflections of China's artistic traditions with contemporary expressions and innovative techniques.
