Bisrat Abraham

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
While serving as interim Assistant Commissioner of the Bureau of HIV at the New York City (NYC) Department of Health, I launched a citywide initiative to promote HIV prevention strategies such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for women of color --a group disproportionately affected by HIV in NYC.

What’s the most important lesson you learned from Garrison Forest?
Garrison Forest helped me to understand the importance of speaking up in a room full of people and gave me the confidence to do so. This was an important lesson that helped me throughout my career.

For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
My 3 beautiful (and energetic) children – Te’Amrat (age 11), Imuna (age 8), and Haben (age 6).
