After graduating from GFS in 1999, Sam studied International Relations at Franklin University Switzerland, engaging as an Honor Board member, mirroring her Garrison role. Post-college, she explored law and education, working in N.Y.C. and teaching in Florence, Italy. In Florence, interacting with students and immigrants, she found her passion for psychology and social justice. Returning to Maryland, she balanced earning her master's in Social Work with a full-time role at Johns Hopkins University managing research and clinical programs in perinatal mental health. Now, Sam runs a private practice focusing on women’s mental health throughout the lifespan employing a social justice lens and mindfulness techniques to address life's inevitable challenges. Sam credits the single-sex environment, open-mindedness, commitment to critical thinking and the value of authentic self-expression emphasized at Garrison as foundational to her career and the diverse experiences she has encountered in life.
