At GFS, Gretta was a member of the Light Blue Spirit Team, Service League, Black Student Union and Theater, and she was president of the 10th Grade. After graduating from GFS in 1986, Gretta pursued a Psychology degree with a concentration in Teaching Gifted Children at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Gretta was a salesperson with Maratelle, a prosthetics, wigs and accessories boutique for cancer survivors while a student at Vassar. During this time, she also completed an internship as a youth counselor for a residential foster care home, The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie. Gretta's career trajectory has been guided by her work as a junior researcher with The Johns Hopkins University and judicial clerkships in Baltimore City. Her time as a domestic violence prosecutor in Baltimore City and Montgomery County launched her third career in national public policy and training/technical assistance championing women's human rights to live free of violence.
