GFS SCHOOL NEWS

The GFS Equestrian team recently traveled to the Tryon International Equestrian Center for the Tryon Spring Welcome Shows on April 8-18. Here are our results from two weeks of competition:

Tryon Welcome Week 3
Bently Du Vernay and Nicola Higgins

Nicola rode Garrison Forest School's Bently Du Vernay and was very successful in the Children's Hunters and THIS Medal.

  • 1st in the THIS Children's Medal
  • 1st and 4th Children's Hunter 15-17

HTS Kings Ransom and Kathryn Obrecht '21
Kathryn, a Garrison student and an Equestrian Institute Member, rode her own horse, HTS Kings Ransom, in her debut in the big equitation.

  • 1st WIHS Equitation Jumper Phase
  • 1st USEF Hunter Seat Medal
  • 2nd WIHS Overall
  • 2nd ASPCA Maclay
  • 4th WIHS Hunter Phase
  • 6th and 7th 15-17 Equitation

Lamor VDL and Lauren Eisele '21
Lauren Eisele, a Garrison student and an Equestrian Institute Member, rode her own horse, Lamor VDL in the Children's Hunters.  They had strong rides and finished 1st Children's Hunter Under Saddle.

Farnley Hi Tide and Drew Mallahan '26
Drew, a Garrison student and an Equestrian Institute Member, rode her pony, Farnley Hi Tide, in the Medium Pony Hunters and WIHS Pony Equitation.

  • 1st, 1st, 1st, 5th,and 6th in the Medium Pony Hunters
  • 2nd WIHS Pony Equitation
  • 7th Pony Hunter Classic
  • Champion Medium Pony Hunter

Heartbeat and Carroll Kilty
Carroll made her debut on her new horse, Heartbeat, in the .80M Jumpers. They had very successful rides on their first shows out. Carroll's clear efforts earned her 1st .80M Jumpers.

H&M Uit De Melle and Virginia Edwards '22
Virginia, a Garrison student and an Equestrian Institute Member, rode her own horse, H&M Uit De Melle in the 2' Foothill Hunters and did an outstanding job achieving personal goals.
3rd, 3rd, 8th Foothills 2' Hunter

Vancouver IV and Magda Stewart
Magda made her debut on her new horse, Vancouver IV in the High Child/Adult Jumpers.

  • 6th, 8th High Child/Adult Jumpers
  • 8th High Child/Adult Classic

Auspicious and Grayson Finnerty '23
Grayson, a Garrison student, made her debut on her new horse, Auspicious, in the 2'6 Foothill Hunters and in the 2'6 Pre Children's Hunters. Grayson and Wish had some awesome rounds in their new partnership.

Knee Deep and Finn Jacobs
Finn rode his horse, Knee Deep, in the Children's Hunters and had some great rounds in good company.

Freeman and Cassie Edgar '22
Cassie, a Garrison student and an Equestrian Institute Member, rode her own horse, Freeman, in the .90 Jumpers.  They had some great rounds and made personal improvements each day.

Chelito and Emilia Murat '24
Emilia, a Garrison student and an Equestrian Institute Member, rode her own horse, Chelito, in the High Child Adult Jumpers.  They had some good rounds and made personal improvements each day.

Tryon Welcome Week 4

Virginia had a big win in a large class of Pre Children's Hunters.

Cece, a Garrison student, rode her horse, Atchafalaya, in the Children's Hunters. They had some great rounds earning them 11th Children Hunter's Classic.
