GFS SCHOOL NEWS

“The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”- Maya Angelou

With this quote, Head of School Chris Hughes wrapped up his speech during Upper School Convocation in Garland Theater on Wednesday, August 29. Using the theme of home, Mr. Hughes welcomed the Upper School students and their families back “home” to GFS, and kicked off the 2018-19 school year.

Head of Upper School Reema Khanchandani, President of the School Lizzie Baratta ‘19 and President of the Parent Association Blair Price Iodice ’83 followed Mr. Hughes by offering words to help set the tone for the school year to the audience of families, students, faculty and staff.

On Thursday, August 31, GFS was back in action as students in grades K-12 arrived on campus for the first day of classes for the new school year. View the photo gallery for the many laughs, smiles, hugs and even dances the students and faculty shared.

Prior to the start of school, GFS boarding students got to know one another and the school through the many on-and-off campus activities during boarding orientation including on campus special dinners and movie nights and off campus trips to Hammerman Beach and a cruise on the Spirit of Baltimore.

Garrison Forest’s youngest students in the Preschool enjoyed their first full days learning and making new friends on September 4 and 5.

Welcome back, and welcome home, GFS!
